It's that time of year again! I'm sure you're just as excited as we are to gather the family, watch the big game and eat until you go up a pant size. But until the table is set, check out some facts about Thanksgiving you may or may not have known.

A Three Day Affair

Yes, we're all excited to see our family this holiday season, but let's be greatful we don't celebrate an authentic Thanksgiving. The original Thanksgiving in Plymouth Colony between European settlers and the Wampanoag Indians was a three day affair. Could you imagine the amount of dishes to clean after a three day feast?

Food Overload

Did you know, 46 million turkeys are eaten on Thanksgiving in the US? If cooking a turkey scares you as much as me maybe you should join the 44% of adults who plan on celebrating their Thanksgiving dinner potluck style.  However, I'd avoid bringing the green bean casserole; 40 million green bean casserole are made every Thanksgiving.

Homemade vs. Store Bought

A potluck style Thanksgiving could work out for everyone, even those who don't really like to cook. According to a study by PR Newswire, 59% of men have bought food at a store for Thanksgiving dinner and tried to pass it off as something they personally cooked. However, when 42.2 million Americans are traveling 50 miles or more from home over the holiday weekend, it's hard to find time to cook a homemade meal. So try to cut those guys some slack.

When the family is finally gathered around the dining room table, remember to keep the conversation light and fun. When asked what is most likely to ruin a Thanksgiving dinner, 46% of those surveyed put "awkward conversation" on the top of the list. So, if you find a conversation going downhill fast try bringing up a few of these Thanksgiving facts. They're sure to liven the party!
