In collaboration with My Purchasing Center, CoVest Sourcing Network created a survey that sought to identify the most popular GPO categories, user savings experiences and best practices associated with GPOs.

In the fourth quarter of 2015, in cooperation with My Purchasing Center, CoVest launched a survey to determine the current state of Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) in the US and what the future
of GPOs is likely to be.

The survey was available to a multitude of participants from all over the world with revenues that range from less than $1 million to those in the Fortune 1000. Respondents varied by the industries they worked in (over 15 different industries participated), by the position they held (from individual contractors to directors) and their involvement with GPOs (participants were both current users of GPOs and non-GPO users). While the procurement experience varied among the participants as well, 73 percent of respondents had more than 11 years of procurement experience.

The survey gathered an abundance of information, focusing on horizontal GPOs that have the following general characteristics:

  •  Membership represents a broad range of industries
  •  Categories included focus on generically specified indirect materials and services
  • GPOs negotiate pricing and contract terms on behalf of their membership
  •  GPOs funded by suppliers so membership is at no cost

The survey revealed a number of GPO best practices, key areas of value provided and the major concerns inhibiting the use of GPOs. To find out more about our findings download our PDF today!
