Continuing our focus on the 2016 CoVest Member Meeting guest speakers, this week we focus on Lenovo Data Center Group Software and what they have to say about IT in today's market and what we can expect in the near future.

Today we see much more technological activity than we have ever before. In just one minute there are over 50,000 apps downloaded, 240 million e-mails sent and 120 hours worth of video uploaded to Youtube. These are just a few examples of how fast our generation has adapted to the digital age.

As quickly as the types of technology changes around us, we need to make sure our information technology (IT) is keeping pace. Slowly the objective is shifting away from traditional IT. No longer does IT simply support business, it is becoming the business. The focus has changed from optimization, cost reliability and management to something more agile.Today we see IT centering more on speed and flexibility.

The best way to insure IT is making this shift is by understanding who manages the different aspects of IT. Some people may not realize that IT strategies span the entire corporation. While IT professionals take center stage, there is still IT management happening through the CEO, CFO, LOB and CIO.

IT professionals maintain: Delivery issues, management complexity, downtime and disparate systems

The CEO oversees: Growth, expectations, transformation and measuring success.

The CFO handles: TCO, lack of return and vendor lock-in

The CIO control: Changing the view of the platform, managing talent and digital leadership

The LOB focus on: Optimizing P&L, innovative solutions, and agility

As efficiently as IT has been keeping up with the digital age, there is still an IT innovation gap. 80% of CEOs rank growth initiatives as a top business priority, however, only 20% of budget is allocated for innovation. While there is desire to innovate, resources are dedicated to maintaining and supporting existing infrastructure and services. Those that can not innovate will fall behind.
